It was a beautiful sunny October day for David’s Kol Ami bar mitzvah service and party.
Before the service, the family met up with me for their formal group portraits, in the sanctuary and outdoors. I photographed the immediate family in formal and casual groupings, and then we photographed larger extended family groups. After these, I took David aside for some solo portraits in the beautiful light in a small garden just to the side of the sanctuary.
It is always a pleasure to photograph a Kol Ami bar mitzvah, partly because there are so many interesting and attractive locations for photos. The sanctuary is spacious and modern, with many large windows to let in the light. The lobby is large & colorful. It can be a great place for larger group photos, and for casual groupings of friends & family. Weather permitting, there are some great spots for outdoor photos.
This family used every part of the temple building. After the service, kids were entertained with food & games in the lobby, while the adults enjoyed hors d’oeuvres in a sunny room and on the patio outside. Then, the party got started in the large banquet room, with music, dancing, more games, and food.
This event had such cute & thoughtful details, including a hand-made yarmulke. His mom had created individual lego placecard holders for the guests, and there was a Mets baseball jersey for them to sign!
